Help A London Child
Our respite and palliative care nurses are at the very core of the service we provide. Described by one parent as ‘angels’, they keep a close eye on their life-limited/life-threatened child, while mum and dad take a much needed break. Our sincere gratitude goes out to Capital 95.8's Help a London Child for their donation toward a four-weekly session where a nurse can care for around 13 young people. Help a London Child have been a loyal supporter of Richard House since 2000, helping in so many ways, from the construction of the hospice to providing much-needed equipment and helping with various projects including our befriending programme, physiotherapist expenses and now our nurses. Thank you so much!
The Openwork Foundation
We are extremely grateful for a pledge from the Openwork Foundation – Cares 4 Kids of £10,000 toward the costs of one respite and palliative nurse over a four month period. A nurse can care for around 52 children during this time. These nurses provide a unique professional, medical, caring, home-from-home service for each child that comes here. They, together with the referral agency and parents, assess each child’s medical, therapeutic, nutritional, social and play needs; draw up individual care and play plans; administer medicine, provide symptom control and specialist nursing care, organise trips and manage mealtimes. Due to the extreme medical and care needs of each child, we work on a one-to-one ratio of child to nurse. Without these staff we could not offer this service.

Towergate Foundation & Help the Hospices
This year the Towergate Foundation, through Help the Hospices have pledged a 75% contribution toward our upcoming Christmas e-Cracker project. This project will involve the production of four Christmas video e-cards. Without this assistance, we would not be able to begin this innovative project which will prove to be an eco-friendly alternative to traditional Christmas cards and could be replicated across the Hospice sector. We would like to say a big thank you to the Towergate Foundation and Help the Hospices for this support which will improve our long-term ability to maintain the vital care that we provide for children with life limiting and/ or life threatening conditions.
Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation
Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation pledged £30,000 over two years toward the costs of a respite and palliative care nurse. This amount will be split in two equal parts and we are extremely grateful to the Foundation for sending the first portion of funds this August. Both contributions will cover a six month period, where a nurse can care for around 84 children. The Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation has been a longstanding and extremely generous supporter of Richard House since 1995.
The Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation was established in 1969 by the English industrialist Stanley Thomas Johnson. He lived in Geneva from 1954 until his death in 1967.
