The 17-mile cycle began at 8.30am in front of the Sainsbury's superstore in Ilford.
The Mayors of Redbridge and Barking & Dagenham, the Deputy Civic Ambassador of Newham, community leaders and local sports personality Fauja Singh “the 95 year old marathon runner” were present at the start.
Community Fundraiser, Manjeet Boparai, said: “We are thrilled that the Sikhs of the south east chose Richard House as one of their charities to benefit from the 2008 bike ride.
“The event - organised by local volunteers, the LCC (London Cycling campaign), Gurdwaras, local councillors and businesses - has so far raised a fantastic £2555.
“We are always grateful for the support of different ethnic communities as many of our children and families come from these cultural groups.”
The ride also celebrated Vaisakhi which is the Sikh New Year. Helping the needy is one of the core foundations of Sikhism and the bike ride is held in this spirit each year.
Richard House Children's Hospice needs to raise £1.8million this year in order to provide its valuable services.
