Types of Care

Some of our Care TeamOur services are wide-ranging, completely free to families and tailored to our multi-cultural community:

Short-break Residential Respite Care
All children/young people are offered 14 nights of pre-bookable respite care per year. This means they can come and stay in the hospice for up to two weeks. If you wish to stay with them you can do so in one of our family flats.

Emergency/End-of-life Stays
Richard House operates an emergency bed system which allows us to respond to an emergency request at short notice. We have a special set of rooms where your child can be cared for at the end of their life.

Day Care
We are able to offer a limited amount of day care where your child can come for a few hours after school or a whole day and participate in activities alongside the children who are resident.

Family Support
We recognise the enormous strain and everyday stresses that caring for a child with a life-limiting condition may place on a family. We are able to provide emotional and practical support to all family members. See our Family Support section for more details.

The Young Adults Group
A relatively new initiative to help our past and present users over the age of 17 deal with transition issues. The group provides a social outlet with their peers and also aims to introduce them to the adult services they may use in the future. See the Young Adults Group page.
